Hello everybody,

At the beginning of the class, José Luis reminded us +of some important tips about using past continuous and past simple in order to help us to improve our writing and speaking skills.

He also reminded us +of some general rules about the article (the) and some exceptions -of +to those rules.

He has posted some exercises in his blog to reinforce these points.

He also explained +to us [1] the difference between "while", which is a conjunction, and meanwhile which is an adverb.

For instance:

While I was studying English my sister was watching TV. Meanwhile, my parents had been working.

We continued on Unit 1 of the Student's Book on page 11 exercise 4a/b. We mingled for a while and spoke to each other to practice some expressions using "get", as indicated in the exercise. At the end of it, we shared our findings with all the class and some interesting expressions appeared:

- I wear +clothes like an onion = I wear -with several layers (in autumn for example).

- I'm 18 years old or I'm 18 but not I'm 18 years.

- My next-door neighbour (Mi vecino de al lado)

- It's a hot potato = It's a big problem

- Ground floor (UK) = First floor (US)

- I crashed into the rear of the other car.

- Are you insured? Yes, but the insurance was not necessary because it was a mere scratch.

We played the game called "Keep a conversation going" in groups of three (page 12 and 13). First of all, we read the rules on page 13 (green square at the bottom of the page), then we listened to three sets of people playing the game and finally we read some useful expressions we used while we played the game (page 13).

To finish the class, José Luis played the game with some of us.
